Alternate (company)
The Alternate Computerversand GmbH is the biggest hardware retailer in Europe, located in Linden (Hesse). The company sells its products through their online shop and its own call center. In Linden there are also two retail stores.
Alternate is also present in the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Spain. The company also owns wave-computer.de for resale. Alternate is the main sponsor of the eSports-Team Alternate aTTaX
History
- 1992 Foundation
- 1996 Moved to a new building in Linden (from Gießen)
- 1997 October 15 the web shop went online
- 1998 Opening of the subsidiary in the Netherlands
- 2000 Start of the new logistics centre in Linden (ca. 3,500 m²)
- 2001 German Internet Award of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology; opening of the Spanish subsidiary
- 2004 extension of the logistics centre (on now 5,800 m²); start of the new web shop
- 2005 the Dutch subsidiary moves to new building with 5,600 m² usable area
- 2006 takeover of the two neighbouring, 15,000 m² sports parks (Alternate sports park)
- 2007 Opening of a shop in Vienna, Austria
